Democrats dominated the 2018 House Election in the Garden State, fueled by anger at Trump and the 2017 Republican tax bill that caused New Jersey's tax rates to surge. They won 11 of the state's 12 congressional districts and held on to 10 of the 12 in 2020. Republicans are hoping to cut into those gains in 2022, buoyed by their suprisingly strong showing in the 2021 Governor Election. Their prime target is Tom Malinowski in the NJ-7th, where they successfully recruited Tom Kean, part of the NJ Kean political dynasty, to take on Congressman Tom Malinowski. If it's a red wave year, Republicans will also be aiming for Andy Kim, the former national security adviser for President Obama, in the NJ-3rd, and former Bill Clinton speechwriter Josh Gottheimer from the NJ-5th.
