In 2020, Republicans outperformed expectations in North Carolina and retained a Senate seat, outpacing Democrats by just over 2%. Senator Richard Burr has decided not to run for re-election, leaving the seat wide open for 2022. Former Chief Justice Cheri Beasley (D) will be facing Congressman Ted Budd (R) in the general election.
