Four years ago, Michelle Lujan Grisham easily won the election, benefitting both from the 2018 blue wave and a relatively weak opponent in Steve Pearce. However, Republicans are feeling bullish about their chances in New Mexico, thanks to a more favorable national environment in 2022. Grisham will face a more challenging opponent in Mark Ronchetti, who ran a surprisingly close race in his bid for the Senate in 2020.
