How to Watch Election Night Like a Pro

By: Logan Phillips

Date: November 3rd

Finally, at long last, the 2020 election is coming to a close. Anticipation is at an all-time high - so here's a preview of what election night will look like. The interactive feature below shows at every hour what the map will look like as states around the nation close their polls.

Now, to be clear, there will be states that won't be called on election night barring a clear margin. In the table below the map, for each state, we break down:

  1. How Fast will they Count the Votes

  2. What Time do the Polls Close?

  3. How Fast do they Count their Ballots?

  4. Will We Know the Results on Election Day?

  5. Educated Guess on When We'll Get a Final Result

  6. Will the First Votes Coming in Skew Towards Democrats or Republicans?

Finally,I'm being very conservative when it comes to labeling states as Democratic or Republican on this map. I'm only calling states where one party has either:

A. At least a 99.5% Chance of Victory OR
B. A 98%+ Chance of Victory and are Projected to Win by 10%+
